Usually, stocks move based on the market’s expectations before an important event such as quarterly results. However, when a stock rises much more than expected, it becomes a major talking point among investors. A similar situation has occurred with Kaynes Technology, which has been rising consistently over the past five trading sessions. Each day, the stock has moved to a higher level, gaining nearly 25% in the last seven trading sessions.
The rally is particularly interesting because it has taken place just before the company’s quarterly results. After delivering surprisingly strong earnings over the previous three quarters, the company later disappointed investors by missing management guidance and revenue expectations. This led many investors to question whether the recent rally is justified or whether the market is once again expecting a strong earnings surprise.
Why Didn’t the Stock Move After the Previous Quarterly Results?
There are a couple of important reasons behind the current rally.
After the fourth-quarter results, the stock did not perform well despite reporting strong operational numbers. The biggest concern was that the company’s cash flow turned far more negative than expected. At the same time, management lowered its outlook for businesses such as the OSAT and PCB segments, creating concerns about near-term growth.
These developments attracted significant selling pressure, and the stock corrected sharply.
The F&O Ban Also Limited the Rally
Another important reason was the stock’s continuous presence in the F&O ban.
Following the quarterly results, Kaynes Technology remained under the F&O ban for nearly 20 to 30 days over the following two months. Because of this restriction, derivatives traders were unable to build fresh positions, reducing participation in the stock. Lower activity in the F&O segment also limited trading volumes, which may have prevented the stock from recovering more quickly.
This is one of the major reasons why the stock remained under pressure even after reporting decent operating performance.
Government Policies Are Improving Long-Term Expectations
The second major reason behind the recent rally is the improving outlook for the semiconductor industry.
The Indian government has announced the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which is expected to provide incentives for semiconductor manufacturing companies. At the same time, countries across the world, including China, continue to invest heavily in semiconductor production.
These policy developments have strengthened investor confidence in companies operating across the electronics manufacturing and semiconductor value chain.
Kaynes’ Strategic Partnerships Are Strengthening the OSAT Business
Kaynes Technology has also announced important strategic partnerships.
One of the recent developments is the signing of an MoU with Micron for its OSAT business. Such partnerships strengthen the company’s future growth opportunities and improve the long-term prospects of its semiconductor manufacturing business.
As OSAT facilities continue to become an important part of India’s semiconductor ecosystem, investors are closely watching Kaynes’ execution in this segment.
The AI Boom Is Another Positive Trigger
Another major factor supporting investor sentiment is the global boom in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
AI applications require significantly more advanced semiconductor chips, and global demand for chips is expected to grow rapidly over the coming years. Since Kaynes Technology is expanding into semiconductor manufacturing through its OSAT business, many investors believe the company could benefit from this long-term structural trend.
Valuation Has Also Become Attractive
From a valuation perspective, Kaynes Technology is trading at a lower valuation compared with companies that are developing similar OSAT facilities, including CG Power.
This valuation gap has also attracted investors who believe that much of the negative news has already been reflected in the stock price.
Analysts Believe Most of the Bad News Is Already Priced In
According to analysts, most of the negative factors have already played out.
The correction in the stock was primarily driven by:
- Negative operating cash flow.
- Higher-than-expected working capital due to the smart meter business.
- Lower business guidance.
- Weak sentiment after management reduced its forecasts.
The smart meter business significantly increased working capital requirements, resulting in weaker cash flow than investors had expected. This became one of the biggest reasons behind the stock’s sharp correction.
Why Analysts Are Not Expecting Another Major Negative Surprise
Looking ahead, analysts are not expecting another major negative surprise from the upcoming quarterly results.
During the previous earnings call, management stated that it would not provide forward guidance for future business performance. As a result, market expectations are more balanced.
Similarly, CG Power has also not provided production guidance for its OSAT facility, making it difficult for investors to compare industry execution in the short term.
Because of this, analysts believe the probability of another large disappointment has reduced.
The Stock Is Still Below Its Previous High
Despite the recent rally, Kaynes Technology has not yet recovered to the price level where it was trading before the post-results correction.
Before the decline, the stock was trading at nearly ₹4,100, whereas it is currently trading around ₹3,860.
This suggests that although investor confidence has improved considerably, the market is still waiting for stronger execution before assigning a higher valuation.
